Brad Marino-Basement Beat

Brad says... Basement Beat is my straight up punk rock record. I was going for an early Ramones sound, very primitive musically & lyrically, and all downstrokes. It came together randomly- with the craziness that was 2020 I had a lot of time to write songs- just for fun- I decided to write some “Ramonescore” songs as a spoof. I decided that for what these songs are they’re too “good “ to just keep on the shelf so I decided to release it as an official solo album. Even though its different than my usual punk-tinged power pop I figured some of my fans would appreciate the sounds and it turned out to be a good move.

To my surprise (and chagrin)- it’s probably my most popular album. People dig the punk stuff I guess! It was originally released on “Hey Pizza” records in October of 2022 as a 200 copy run- it quickly went out of print and now its back on SIOUX. I also discovered that the entire LP fit on one side so for this repress we’ve put on a live set from when I played in Atlanta, GA at “Downsouth Showdown” in January of 2022. There was no “Brad Marino Band” at the time – as I’d only been solo for a couple years so I recruited my ex-Connection partner Geoff Palmer on bass as well as drummer Zack Sprague. We played 2 nights at the showdown Friday & Saturday- I believe this set was Saturday but I could be wrong. Either way it’s no “It’s Alive” but it adds something for collectors and makes the repress that much cooler.
